About Our Community

We are the Butterfly on Coyote clan of the Siksika Nation of the Blackfoot Confederacy, Bear Spirit Medicine Lodge East. We acknowledge that the land upon which we walk and host ritual, and ceremony is sacred to the Catawba, Tuscarora, Occaneechee, and Lumbee First Nations of NC.

Sacred Ceremonies and Living the Medicine Wheel

See below for ceremonies, rituals, classes, and gatherings. Workshops can be organized on demand and for private groups.

Purification Lodge (ihsikani)
Purification (Sweat Lodge) Ceremony is a meaningful community ritual experience open to all people. Purification Lodge is conducted in keeping with the traditional ways of the Blackfoot Indian people. The Lodge is our spiritual mother in physical form. Red hot stones are splashed with water by the Ceremony Leader (Water Pourer) and hot steam becomes our words rising up, touching everything, and becoming a part of All-That-Is. Herbs, songs and prayer are offered as medicine.  We invite you to join in this outdoor ceremony held on sacred land. To participate in this program email us for directions/etiquette info.

Pipe Ceremony
It can be difficult to try and explain something like Pipe Ceremony to an Outsider. That is true of anything sacred. There are no simple explanations. Pipe ceremony is one of the sacred ceremonies of the Blackfoot Indians that we share and honor in Bear Spirit Medicine Lodge. It is a grounding, On- the- Floor, On- the –Earth prayer experience. The Ceremony is an ancient and sacred ritual that can bring you into wonder and awe. See our events for the next scheduled pipe ceremony.

There is no charge for ceremony but monies donated are used for firewood, herbs and supplies. Suggested donation: give what your hearts asks you to. Please visit our page “Support our Work” to make a donation.

Walking the Blackfoot Medicine Wheel

“Walking the Medicine Wheel is a 13 month opportunity to reflect on life, its path, its dreams and visions and its connection to the All That Is. We begin in relation to the ‘Omahkatosi, the Great Spirit’ and are taught how to respect ourselves and our relation to all other life forms, Mother Earth, and the 7 Directions, in keeping with the Law of Right Relations. We will in essence complete a medicine wheel rotation that represents all of creation, all races of people, animals, birds, fish, insects, trees, and stones, the elements, the sun, stars, moon and earth all find their place along the wheel. Our medicine work will embody tool making, drumming, ceremony and ritual. We will come to understand while engaging with the deeply feminine and deeply masculine way how to walk this life path in alliance with all of Nature for those generations past and the generations yet to come!” At the completion of our time together there will be an 8-Day ceremonial vision quest. Join us June 22 at 6 PM at One Spirit Farm. See events calendar to discover this opportunity to Walk the Wheel. There will be a Healing Drum session and a fire ritual to follow.

HONORING OUR BLACKFOOT ELDER

We are blessed to be under the tutelage and care of our Blackfoot Elder Walks in Spirit who continues to grow and serve in the role of his later years on Mother Earth.

Once separated from his indigenous roots, a deep and burning desire propelled him to go home, to seek his tribal nation. Chuck returned to the land of his people and eventually was initiated as the medicine elder, Walks in Spirit, by his Elder George Bloody Tongue and the Siksika Nation. He has taught for many decades the traditional Siksika way of living and being. He was instructed to teach “those whom Spirit sends”, and for that we are immensely grateful.

Over the years many have participated in gatherings facilitated by Walks in Spirit and Sandhill Crane. Students and apprentices continue to gather for sacred ceremony, to engage in ritual, and to grow ever deeper in our relationship with the Ihtsitapiyopa (the All That Is),

For more information about what we offer please visit our events page.

Some call her Auntie

As part of his responsibility to leave a path for those seeking the Siksika way of right living, he initiated Lorna, Sand Hill Crane, to carry on the traditional Siksika ways of living and being, in alliance with all our relatives and ancestors and keeping ceremony, ritual and the ancestral ways in a good way. With continuing guidance from Walks in Spirit, Creator, the 7 directions, and the Great Spirit (Omahkatosi), the walk and the work now continue through his initiated sister, Lorna, Sand Hill Crane.

Community Energetic Healing Services

Reframing and Soul Retrieval

You are invited to restore what was lost or stolen from you in the past. It is a guided and safe passage into your soul, your inner dimensions. It reconnects fragmented parts of you into a more unique whole self that is better equipped to walk the red road of purpose, love and respect.

A soul retrieval lets in the light to dark places. A soul retrieval is only done after several journeying sessions and spirit says it is ready to acknowledge the time for healing is now.

Beating of the Drum to the Heart of Mother Earth

Connect to the heartbeat of mother Earth and all her relatives through the heart of a drum while experiencing healing from the drum of a medicine woman or man (ninampskan). Bring your rattles, drums, and readiness to be open to the spirit of fire and cedar after the healing drum circle.

House and Office Cleansings

Cleansing addresses lost spirits, disturbing energies and such that makes a sacred space uncomfortable or unlivable.

Within Bear Spirit Medicine Lodge, a house or office cleansing is done with a support team. This is typically a 7 day process: 3 days before, the ritual day itself, and then 3 days after.
